The Small Business Innovation Research Initiative (SBIRI) scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology was launched in 2005 to boost Public Private Partnership (PPP) efforts in the country. SBIRI was the first of its kind, early stage, innovation focused PPP initiative in the area of Biotechnology. Proposals can be submitted by - Solely a Company incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) incorporated under the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008 or Joint Ventures either in the form of Company/ LLP by any of the above entities jointly with other private or public partner(s) (Universities or Institutes).
PurposeTo provide support for early stage, pre-proof-of-concept research in biotechnology by industry; and to support new indigenous technologies particularly those related to societal needs in the healthcare, food and nutrition, agriculture and other sectors.

Supporting students and startups to patent and re-imburse the patenting expenses in all stages of filing, prosecution & patent granting Patent Support System intends to support startup entrepreneurs and student entrepreneurs by reimbursing the patent cost including consultation fee, subject to a limit of Rs. 2 lakh per Indian patent awarded. For awarded foreign patents on a single subject matter, up to Rs. 10 lakh would be reimbursed. The reimbursement will be done in 3 stages during filing, prosecution and award.

PurposeThe objective of the Stand-Up India scheme is to facilitate bank loans between 10 lakh and 1 Crore to at least one Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) borrower and at least one woman borrower per bank branch for setting up a greenfield enterprise. This enterprise may be in manufacturing, services or the trading sector. In case of non-individual enterprises at least 51% of the shareholding and controlling stake should be held by either an SC/ST or Woman entrepreneur. PurposeTo provide young engineering students an opportunity to work on a technology development project in a research environment and learn/ explore avenues for taking technology to the market. To provide an opportunity for students to work closely with a technology entrepreneur.
The project should be for a minimum period of 2 months and should be offered by a start-up/entrepreneur in the Venture Center innovation ecosystem or POC Project Manager at Venture Center. The project shall begin with a short training by Venture Center mentors on technology development and commercialization.
