About the Company

We are an early-stage industrial biotech startup developing sustainable, high-quality functional proteins via precision fermentation. The company is currently in the process of incorporation and website development. This role is for our first scientific hire, who will help drive proof-of-concept at bench scale and lay the groundwork for future scale-up.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD (0–2 yrs) or MS/MSc (5–7 yrs) to execute and optimize strain engineering, bench-scale fermentation (shake flask, 1–2 L), and downstream purification for recombinant proteins. The candidate will also support analytical workflows in collaboration with the hiring manager.

  • Design and execute molecular cloning, strain engineering, expression optimization (Pichia pastoris / yeast preferred).
  • Run fermentation at shake flask and 1–2 L bioreactors, optimizing yield/quality and process parameters.
  • Perform downstream purification (clarification/filtration, TFF, chromatography, polishing, recovery).
  • Support analytical characterization of proteins (with/without Hiring Manager collaboration, depending on availability).
  • Maintain rigorous documentation, generate IP-critical data, and present results for decision-making.
  • Coordinate consumables/equipment needs; uphold good lab practices and safety.
Candidate Profile
  • PhD in Biotechnology/Microbiology/Bioprocess Engineering (0–2 yrs), or
  • MS/MSc in related fields (5–7 yrs hands-on in microbial fermentation/protein production).
  • Practical expertise with yeast (preferably Pichia) molecular biology and fermentation.
  • Demonstrated protein purification skills (FPLC/ÄKTA or equivalent a plus).
  • Familiarity with SDS-PAGE, Western blot, basic HPLC/UPLC desirable.
  • Startup mindset: independent, resourceful, organized, and accountable.
