Pune Inc | Couple’s startup finds way to reuse hard-to-recycle multi-layered plastic

Published in The Indian Express on 25 August 2026, this feature by Dipanita Nath profiles Ismclimatech, a startup founded by environmental biotechnology researchers Deepali Jadia and Harsh Jadia. The couple developed a process to recover aluminium from multilayer plastic packaging without using heat, allowing the remaining mixed plastic to be transformed into durable industrial-grade pellets.

Now incubated at Venture Center, Ismclimatech is working to address the challenge posed by discarded food packets, medicine wrappers and other packaging that is difficult to recycle through conventional methods. Its recycled pellets can serve as alternatives to virgin plastic resins, with potential applications in footwear and automotive components. The startup’s work demonstrates how biochemical innovation can turn a persistent waste-management problem into a resource, supporting circular manufacturing and creating opportunities for more sustainable material use.
