Pune Inc | From mountain chill to made-in-India innovation: Startup ‘prints’ warmth into lightweight jackets

Published in The Indian Express on 5 May 2026, this feature by Dipanita Nath explores how Suryudey Plastic Electronics is applying printed electronics to develop lightweight, flexible and functional wearable technology.

Founded by Yash Goliya, whose entrepreneurial journey has been shaped by his experience at Venture Center, Suryudey uses conductive inks printed directly onto flexible substrates to create electronic circuits and heating elements. Its heated jackets aim to offer an alternative to conventional bulky winter clothing, with the technology also being developed for vests, T-shirts and gloves.

Beyond wearable heating, the company is working on printed electrodes and sensing elements for continuous health monitoring, as well as connected textiles incorporating antennas for NFC, Bluetooth and RFID applications. These technologies have potential uses across medical devices, industrial heating, defence, automotive and aerospace.

The article also examines the challenges of manufacturing printed electronics in India, including rising silver prices and the need to build reliable domestic production capabilities. Suryudey has responded by redesigning products to reduce silver consumption, exploring alternatives such as copper and bringing more of its manufacturing processes in-house. The feature highlights the startup’s efforts to translate advances in materials and electronics into practical products with applications across multiple industries.
