About the Talk:
The UK has developed a connected battery innovation ecosystem, bringing together research institutions, funding programmes, industry partnerships, and open-access manufacturing facilities to accelerate the development and commercialization of advanced battery technologies. A key part of this ecosystem is the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) — the UK’s national open-access battery manufacturing development facility in Coventry — which helps bridge the gap between laboratory-scale innovation and mass production.
This session will provide insights into how the UK’s battery innovation ecosystem operates, how shared manufacturing infrastructure supports technology development and industrialisation, and how startups and SMEs can progress from early-stage battery innovations towards manufacturing readiness and commercial-scale production.
About the Speakers:
Mr. Yahya Yahyavi Alvar — Head of Business Development, UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) — leads business development at UKBIC, where he has been associated since 2022. He brings over 25 years of experience across automotive engineering, quality, and business development. Previously, he worked with Ricardo, developing battery systems business for electrified vehicles across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and has also worked with automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers through roles at Altran and Ford’s technical centre.
Mr. John Poli — Manufacturing Operations Director, UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) — is responsible for UKBIC’s manufacturing capabilities and is a member of its executive team. He brings extensive experience in automotive manufacturing, having spent 18 years at Jaguar Land Rover, most recently as Director of Manufacturing Engineering for engines, batteries, and electric drive units. He has worked with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and technology companies across the UK, India, and China.
