Challenge 3: AI-Enabled Technologies for Small-Scale Inland Aquaculture
India is the world’s second-largest aquaculture producer, and most of its inland fish come from small farmers running ponds under two hectares. These farmers still work without data. They can’t estimate biomass, feed is 50–70% of their costs, and overnight oxygen crashes wipe out stock without warning. We are seeking affordable, AI-enabled technologies that work with unreliable power and weak internet, covering biomass estimation, appetite-matched feeders, intelligent aerators, real-time water quality alerts, on-farm disease detection, and advisory in local languages on basic mobile phones. Solutions should also link farmers to markets, reduce post-harvest losses, and generate verifiable production data that opens access to credit and insurance. They must be validated with small-scale producers in the field and focus on Indian Major Carps, Tilapia, and Catfish.
