• (19 Sept 2022) Social Innovation Lecture Series presents 22nd talk on Paani Foundation: Upscaling Technology Through A People’s Movement by

Mr Satyajit Bhatkal (CEO, Paani Foundation) | Flyer |  Register here

Paani Foundation is well known for their ground level work towards creating a drought-free and prosperous Maharashtra. From 2016-2019, they have hosted the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup, a competition between villages to do the best work in water and soil conservation. In these 4 years, hundreds of villages became water-abundant through their own efforts. Several success stories emerged, and learnings too, where they realised that there was a pressing need to use this water to improve farmers’ livelihoods as well. And so, starting May 2022, they have launched a new competition – the Satyamev Jayate Farmer Cup – which harnesses the power of group farming (collectivization) and scientific knowledge to improve farmers’ productivity and incomes. Over 1500 farmer groups have been created from scratch as a part of the Farmer Cup, as good as 1500 new startups have been created in the agricultural ecosystem.  Every week, they also host digital ‘sheti shalas’ or farming schools for all the groups participating in the competition. This is a direct platform where farmers connect with top agricultural experts, and ask their queries. Such schools are on for 15 crops at the moment.

About the Speaker: Satyajit is trained legal professional but is best known as director of “Satyamev Jayate”, a TV show focused on addressing social issues in India. Currently, he is CEO of Paani Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao.
